Website Decision Guide

Local SEO Websites Need Local Usefulness, Not City-Name Swapping

A local website should make it easy to understand what the business provides and where it operates. Location pages work best when they contain information that genuinely changes by place.

Start with accurate business information

Make the business name, contact details, service area or address easy to find. Keep important information consistent across the website and relevant business profiles.

Use location pages when they help customers

A real office, distinct service process, local pricing issue, route, regulation or set of neighbourhoods can justify a location page. A page that changes only Vancouver to Burnaby adds little value.

Connect services and locations logically

Visitors often think in both dimensions: what they need and where they need it. Navigation and internal links should let them move between service details and relevant geographic information without creating hundreds of combinations.

Add evidence that belongs to the location

Useful local details might include office information, service boundaries, project examples, travel considerations or locally relevant FAQs. Do not invent testimonials, addresses or claims merely to make a page appear local.

Keep the primary conversion path consistent

Whether someone enters through the homepage or a city page, they should be able to reach contact, quote or booking information easily. Local SEO should not create a parallel website with a different user experience.

When a city page is genuinely useful

A location page can explain a real office, local service boundaries, neighbourhood coverage, travel considerations, projects, routes or regulations. If none of the content changes meaningfully by city, a broader service-area page may serve customers better.

Example: a multi-city transportation business

A transportation company can have meaningful differences between an airport page, a Whistler transfer page and a Seattle transfer page because routes, timing, border considerations, vehicle needs and customer questions differ. Simple city-name substitutions would not provide the same value.

Avoid building a hidden SEO layer

Location pages should participate in normal navigation and be useful enough that the business is comfortable sending customers to them directly. If pages exist only for search engines and are intentionally difficult for visitors to discover, reconsider why they exist.
